Annual International Gathering in Portland, Oregon

July, 28 - August 1, 2008

THE 2008 CONFERENCE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.

Thanks to all who registered for the 2008 International Gathering in beautiful Portland, Oregon. We look forward to another week of learning about best person centered practices being used around the world.

 Summary Agenda:

Day Topics

 

Monday - Wednesday

These first three days are Trainer days. Content to be covered includes:

  • Training updates including 2008 Person Centered Thinking Curriculum
  • Opportunities to practice new and estsablished Person Centered Thinking skills/tools of your choice
  • Share international learning on our work on developmental disabilities, seniors, mental health and children
  • Mentor Trainer led "Speak-Easy" poster session
  • Reflect on what is being learned by self-advocates and families

Wednesday night: Group Dinner at Portland City Grill

Thursday

This day will be focused on international learning related to Person Centered Thinking Coaches.  It will be geared toward trainers and others who are coaching person centered thinking. 

During this day we will:

  • Share new materials to support people who have a coaching role
  • Outline different approaches to supporting coaches
  • Provide opportunity to practice coaching skills

Friday

 

This day will provide an opportunity to learn from each other about:

  • The changes emerging in people’s lives related to the use of person centered practices.
  • How these changes impact organizational performance and begin to create person centered organizations.
  • The changes emerging in larger systems and how they are coming about.

This day is being organized by SDA, HSA and NASDDDS.

Location/Lodging: The conference will be held at University Place, www.uplace.pdx.edu. University Place is in a prime location, close to public transportation and the Tom McCall Water Front Park. We have negotiated a group rate of US $99/night + tax for sleeping rooms. Reservations can be made by calling 1-866-845-4647. In order to get the group rate you MUST tell them the block code “OTAC 2008, and make your reservations early as rooms are limited! This hotel will fill up due to its prime location in downtown Portland. The block of rooms will be released June 28, 2008. If you plan on staying past Saturday and would like to avoid being required to switch rooms, when booking a room, request a ‘King room’.

Group Dinner: This year, the group dinner will be at Portland City Grill on Wednesday, July 30 from 6pm until 10pm. We have selected a location that is smoke-free with an amazing view of Portland from the 30th floor of the US Bankcorp tower. Along with this beautiful view, we’ll have music and a buffet-style dinner. If you choose to attend, the cost for dinner is US $35.00 per person. You may pay for your dinner with your registration, or you may pay when you arrive in Portland, no later than Monday afternoon. Please indicate if you have any food allergies, other accommodations for the dinner (such as vegetarian) or if you are bringing anyone with you.

Sponsorship for Self-Advocates: It’s important that we hear from all voices during our Gathering. You may include a donation with your registration fee to support self-advocates attending the Gathering. You will receive a receipt for your donation to a not for profit organization.

 

Fees: The registration fee for this year’s Gathering is US $425. This fee includes attendance for sessions Monday through Thursday and a CD with presented materials and current resources. The early registration rate is US $400 if your fee is received by May 30, 2008.

Payment details You may pay online using a credit card through PayPal, send a check by mail, purchase order, or we can send you an invoice. There will be an additional $15.00 convenience fee if you pay online using PayPal.  Regardless of the payment option that you choose, you must register using our secure online registration system.
